Free VAT Invoice Generator for South Africa

This free VAT invoice generator is set up for South Africa. It prints the title "Tax Invoice", adds your VAT number, applies VAT at 15% and keeps every total exact to the smallest unit of South African Rand (ZAR). South African VAT vendors must issue a tax invoice within 21 days, and invoices above R5,000 need the buyer's details and VAT number.

Fill in your business, your client and the items; the invoice builds itself beside the form. Each line can carry its own rate, and the totals show the taxable value, each tax line and the grand total, followed by the amount in words. Special cases are covered too (zero-rated (0%) and exempt): pick the treatment and the legal wording is printed for you. Dates follow the local format (26/10/2026).

Nothing you type leaves your computer: drafts, saved clients and your invoice history stay in this browser, and the PDF is created on your device. Rates were last checked on 2026-10-26; tax rules change, so confirm anything unusual with your tax authority.

Frequently asked questions

What VAT rates can I use for South Africa?

The generator offers 15%. These are starting values last checked on 2026-10-26. South African VAT is 15%. Full tax invoices (above R5,000) need both parties’ VAT numbers. Check sars.gov.za.

Do I need my VAT number on the invoice?

Yes. A tax invoice should show your VAT number. The generator checks the format and warns you if it looks wrong, but never blocks your download.

Can I enter prices that already include tax?

Yes. Choose "Including VAT" and the generator works the tax back out of each price, so the total equals the prices you entered.

Is this a government e-invoice?

No. It creates a PDF invoice for you to send. South Africa does not require a government e-invoicing system for most small businesses, but check if that changes.

Where is my invoice data stored?

Only in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the generator works offline after the first visit.
