Consulting invoice template

Consulting clients expect paperwork that looks as considered as your advice. This consulting invoice template uses a framed, corporate layout with room for a purchase order number, a clear scope line for each engagement phase and a professional payment block.

Bill retainers, workshops, day rates or milestone payments, and add expenses such as travel as separate lines so the client can approve them quickly. Larger firms often pay only against a PO number, so the reference field is printed prominently near the top.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put the client's PO number?

In 'Reference / PO number'. It prints in the invoice details so accounts payable can match it.

Should expenses be taxed?

That depends on your country's rules for recharged costs. Add expenses as normal lines and pick the tax rate your accountant recommends.

Can I send a quote first?

Yes. Switch the document type to Quotation, send it, then duplicate it and change the type back to Invoice when the work is approved.
